K-Family Support Program
K-Family Support Program (KFSP) began in 2002. We noticed that many single mothers were trying to admit their children into our children’s home and other children’s homes in the city. They were willing to totally relenquish their rights as parents and surrender their children just so that child could get an education! While our residential home is meant for children who are from extreme circumstances and who have no family, single mothers were continually begging us to take their children. Even though we said "no" to admitting the children into our home, we knew God was calling us to help in some way. We began offering these broken families support toward school fees, school related costs, medical needs and more.
As of 2016, more than 15 KFSP children have graduated from 12th grade (Every one of them come from families who have never had a member make it past 7th grade). Most of the children are being raised by grandparents, single moms, widowed mothers and abandoned mothers. As of 2017, we currently support just over 170 children from pre-school through college. We are increasing our coverage to 20 additional children each year.
Our support includes school fees, uniforms, books and more. We also are able to give clothes to the children each year. We cover all medical issues. We conduct several family workshops each year, in addition to hosting several parties and get-togethers with the kids from the KFSP program. We have a social worker and team that visits each family several times a year and checks on their progress, counsels and prays for them. KFSP has plans in the works to host medical and dental screenings for all of the children and families in K-Ministries.
We are encouraging the mothers from our Family Supper Program to be Associate Social Workers, reaching the women in their own community.
My name is Rukmani and I want to tell my story. I am not educated well, I was forced to quit school at 13 years old to clean houses, even though I liked school. My parents forced me to marry a man who was an alcoholic and so much older than me. I gave my life to Jesus through some church friends. I can say that many times my husband threatened me and tried to force me to not attend church, I did not change my mind or heart, and somehow God was faithful. Unexpectedly, my husband died and left me with two small children. No one helped me. My own family ignored me and my children. My husband’s family ignored us. When my husband died I thought my life was over, but God was faithful and helped me. Even though everyone left me, Jesus never left.
I came to know about this Family Support Program through a church friend. I had been cleaning houses and earning about 2500 rs/month (USD 50.00). I could not send my children to school because schools are so expensive. I used that money for rent and to buy food, but even it was not enough, so we only ate in morning and night.
Because of KFSP's help, now I can use my earnings on food so that my children can eat three times a day. KFSP helps by paying for my children’s school and even their medical problems. Now I can spend my earnings on my children in a better way. I have a daughter, Vishwathi who is 11, and a son, Nithin, who is 9. They are attending a really nice school and making nice grades. I am so happy and I can say that my children are so happy too. I can say that Jesus is everything to me. He is my father, husband, and friend and He is my children’s true Father. I can see His blessing to me through this support program and I can say that we are a blessed family.
